This morning’s adventure took me to Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge in Middletown, RI, in search of the elusive Snowy Owl. While the owl decided to keep a low profile today, the morning was far from a loss.

I was treated to a peaceful encounter with a handsome buck, who seemed curious—but cautious—about my camera gear. Maybe he was wondering if that 800mm lens was some sort of new-age antler? And just when I thought the morning might end quietly, a ring-necked pheasant made a grand entrance, strutting around like he owned the place. When he noticed me, he didn’t change direction or his cadence. He walked right by me!

No owl this time, but the beauty and surprises of nature never disappoint. Sometimes, it’s about the exercise, fresh air—and the wildlife willing to share a bit of their morning with you.
