We’ve all had that moment.
That quiet, innocent “yes”…
That somehow grows legs, puts on tap shoes, and drags us onto a stage we never intended to stand on.
At the time, it feels harmless.
A good idea, even.
Until it isn’t.
Until it’s real.
Until you realize this isn’t a conversation, a meeting, or a polite round of applause—
It’s you.
In front of everyone.
With no place to hide.
That’s where Jen found herself.
Only Jen didn’t just step onto a stage—
She stepped into something far more meaningful.
You see, this wasn’t about dance.
This was about connection.
In a world where it’s easy to stay tucked inside our roles, our titles, our offices—Jen chose something different. She chose to reach.
She shared, in her own thoughtful way, that she felt removed from campus life. From students. From the very heartbeat of the place she cared about.
And instead of accepting that distance…
She crossed it.
In the most unexpected way imaginable.
She danced.
Now let’s be honest.
This wasn’t about perfect steps or polished choreography.
No one walked in expecting a Fred Astaire moment.
What we witnessed was something far rarer.
Courage.
The kind that shows up with shaky hands and a racing heart.
The kind that says, “I’m terrified… but I’m doing this anyway.”
Before she went on, you could see it.
That nervous energy. That “maybe I should have thought this through” look we all know so well.
She even wanted to go first—
Not for glory.
But to get it over with.
And yet…
When the moment came—
She didn’t shrink.
She showed up.
Fully.
Bravely.
Beautifully human.
And something remarkable happened in that room.
No one was watching for perfection.
We were watching for heart.
And Jen gave us all of it.
In doing so, she reminded us of something we forget far too often:
- The best teachers don’t just explain—they demonstrate.
- The best leaders don’t just direct—they step forward.
- And the most inspiring people?
They go first.
Jen didn’t just dance that night.
She connected.
She inspired.
She quietly gave every person in that room permission to be just a little bit braver.
And maybe that’s the real performance we witnessed.
Not choreography—
But character.
So here’s to Jen.
For stepping out when it would’ve been easier to stay in.
For choosing courage over comfort.
For reminding all of us what it looks like to truly show up.
And yes…
For earning the title we’ll never let her forget—
Twinkle Toes.
Because sometimes, the most meaningful dances…
Are the ones we never planned to take.
